Summary

Meta moved from conversation-based to per-message pricing on 1 July 2025. Every other calculator on the internet still shows stale rates. This one is current, UK-specific, and gives you a defensible monthly number to budget against.

  • Per-message rates by category (Marketing / Utility / Authentication / Service).
  • UK GBP output by default; pick any country.
  • Service messages are free; the tool reflects that.
  • Compare against NuvenarHub Pro at £480/mo.

02 // What the number means

What the number really represents

The monthly figure shown above is your raw Meta API spend at current per-message rates. It does not include the cost of your CRM, your inbox software, AI replies, broadcast scheduling, consent management, or the engineering time to wire all of that together. Most teams budget the API spend correctly and then under-budget the surrounding stack by 5-10x.

The pricing model that changed on 1 July 2025

Before July 2025, Meta billed in 24-hour conversation windows. A single conversation could cost £0.05-0.10 depending on category, but it covered an unlimited number of messages within that window. After July 2025, every template message is billed individually. Non-template Service messages within the 24-hour customer-initiated window are free; everything else is per-message.

The practical impact for a clinic sending appointment reminders: the cost dropped by 60-70%. For an e-commerce business doing marketing broadcasts: the cost stayed roughly flat or rose 5-10%. For an auth provider sending OTPs: rates went down meaningfully.

When the BSP markup is worth paying

If you are sending fewer than 5,000 messages a month and do not have engineering resource, the 15-25% BSP markup buys you: hosted templates, deliverability dashboards, no Meta-side billing setup, and a ready-made web inbox. Below that volume threshold the absolute pound amount of the markup is small, and the engineering cost of going direct is real.

Above 10,000 messages per month, the markup starts to bite. A 20% markup on £400/mo of Meta spend is £80/mo or £960/year. NuvenarHub Pro at £480/mo gives you the same direct Cloud API access and a full CRM, AI replies, broadcast scheduling, and an audit-ready consent layer.

What this calculator does not estimate

  • Quality rating downgrades. If your number gets marked "Low" quality, Meta caps your daily message limit. Volume calculations assume Green / Medium quality.
  • Conversation limits. Lower-tier accounts cap at 1,000 unique customers per 24 hours. Plan for that ceiling separately.
  • Template approval delays. A 48-hour template review can cost more in missed campaign timing than three months of API spend.
  • Twilio / BSP support fees. Some providers add a flat monthly platform fee on top of per-message rates. Set BSP markup higher to approximate.

WhatsApp Business API cost by UK industry

Headline rates apply uniformly but the actual monthly cost depends on volume and message-category mix. Below are typical ranges from the 100+ UK operators NuvenarHub serves, by industry:

IndustryTypical volumeMeta cost/mo
UK aesthetics clinic (single location)3,000-6,000 msgs/mo£80-£250
UK marketing agency (5-15 person)1,500-4,000 msgs/mo£40-£160
UK e-commerce SMB8,000-25,000 msgs/mo£250-£800
UK trades / contractors (5-van firm)800-2,000 msgs/mo£20-£80
UK fitness studio (200-600 members)4,000-9,000 msgs/mo£100-£350

UK aesthetics clinic (single location): Booking confirmations + 24-hr / 2-hr reminders + 12-month recall sequences. Service-window replies are the bulk of inbound and free.

UK marketing agency (5-15 person): Client comms in service window (free) + occasional Marketing broadcasts to client list. Heavy on inbound, light on outbound templates.

UK e-commerce SMB: Order confirmations (Utility) + dispatch alerts (Utility) + recovery flows for abandoned carts (Marketing, opt-in required) + WhatsApp customer support inbox.

UK trades / contractors (5-van firm): Quote replies + appointment confirmations + invoice / payment chasing. Almost entirely service-window conversation, low template cost.

UK fitness studio (200-600 members): Class reminders (Utility) + trial follow-ups (Utility) + win-back sequences (Marketing) + member retention campaigns.

WhatsApp Business API pricing for UK aesthetics clinics specifically

A UK aesthetics clinic running 4,000 messages a month under the typical mix (45% Utility for confirmations and reminders, 15% Marketing for recall sequences, 40% Service-window replies) lands around £80-£150/mo at current Meta rates. The bulk of inbound is patient questions inside the 24-hour window, which is free. Outbound utility templates (the appointment confirmation, the 24-hour reminder, the 2-hour reminder) are the main billable line.

For a clinic doing 8,000-12,000 messages a month, with active recall sequences and a broadcast campaign every 4-6 weeks, expect £200-£400/mo. Compare against the equivalent SMS cost (£350-£500/mo at Twilio rates) and the gap closes the case quickly.

WhatsApp Business API pricing for UK estate agents

Estate agents see the most acute response-time pressure (the Saturday-evening Rightmove enquiry that goes cold by Monday) and benefit most from the free service-window pricing. Typical agency: 2,000-4,000 messages a month, mostly inbound enquiries triggering a service-window reply. Meta cost £40-£100/mo for the agency itself. Multi-branch agencies scale linearly.

WhatsApp Business API pricing for UK e-commerce

E-commerce is the highest-volume case in the table above. Order confirmations and dispatch alerts are Utility templates that cost in the £0.018 range per message. Abandoned-cart recovery is Marketing-category (requires opt-in, costs around £0.04). For a UK Shopify store doing 5,000 orders a month with confirmation + dispatch + occasional marketing broadcast, expect £250-£600/mo. Higher than service businesses, but per-order cost is under £0.05.

How to reduce WhatsApp Business API cost

Three durable levers. Maximise service-window usage: every conversation you can route as a customer-initiated thread inside the 24-hour window costs nothing for your replies. Encourage customers to start the conversation (reply BOOK, send INFO) rather than blasting outbound templates. Choose Utility over Marketing where possible: a templated booking confirmation is Utility (£0.018) not Marketing (£0.04). Even promotional-feeling content can sometimes be re-framed as Utility if it's tied to an existing transaction. Avoid BSP markup: direct Meta Cloud API access (or a platform like NuvenarHub that passes through at cost) removes the 15-25% BSP layer.

03 // FAQ

Are these WhatsApp Business API rates up to date for 2026?

Yes. They reflect Meta's per-message pricing model that replaced conversation-based pricing on 1 July 2025. We review the rate table every 60 days and after every published Meta rate change. The exact review date is shown at the bottom of the calculator output.

Why are WhatsApp service messages free?

Meta made service messages (replies sent within a 24-hour window after a customer-initiated message) free starting 1 November 2024. This was a major shift; many calculators still bill them as utility. We do not.

What is a WhatsApp BSP markup and how much is it?

Business Solution Providers (BSPs) like Wati, Respond.io, AiSensy, and Twilio resell Meta's WhatsApp API and add a markup of 15-25% on the underlying message rates. If you use the Meta Cloud API directly (what NuvenarHub Pro does), the markup is 0%. Adjust the slider to your provider's actual rate.

Why is the UK WhatsApp rate higher than the US rate?

Meta uses a per-country rate table reflecting carrier fees and regulatory cost. The UK falls into Meta's higher-cost tier for Marketing and Authentication, similar to Germany and France. India and South-East Asia are in the lower-cost tier.

Does WhatsApp Business API pricing include VAT?

No. Meta does not charge VAT directly on API usage when you bill via the developer console. Your BSP may apply UK VAT if billed through them. NuvenarHub Pro is billed at £480/month and passes Meta rates through at cost.

What happens if I send a Marketing template inside the 24-hour service window?

Meta still bills it as Marketing, even though the conversation was customer-initiated. The 24-hour free service window only applies to non-template Service messages. Utility templates sent inside the window are also free; Authentication and Marketing always carry their per-message rate.

What is the cheapest way to send WhatsApp business messages in the UK?

Direct Meta Cloud API integration via a developer build, or a BSP that does not mark up per-message rates (NuvenarHub passes through at cost, charging only the £480/mo platform fee). The expensive path is a managed BSP with 20-25% markup plus a monthly licence. For 10,000 messages a month the cost gap between cheapest and most-expensive paths is typically £200-£400.

How much does WhatsApp Business API cost for a UK aesthetics clinic?

Typical UK aesthetics clinic running 3,000-6,000 messages a month (booking confirmations, treatment reminders, recall sequences) sits in the £80-£250 a month range for Meta fees, plus the BSP or platform fee. Service messages (replies inside the 24-hour customer window) are the bulk of inbound and are free. Utility templates for confirmations are the main billable item.

Is WhatsApp cheaper than SMS for UK transactional messaging?

Yes for any business with meaningful inbound. UK SMS via Twilio is £0.04 per segment with no free window. UK WhatsApp utility is £0.018 with free service messages inside the customer window. For a business with 30% inbound-triggered conversations (most service businesses), WhatsApp ends up 50-80% cheaper at the same volume.

What WhatsApp templates do UK clinics need to send?

Booking confirmations (Utility), 24-hour and 2-hour appointment reminders (Utility), recall sequences for 6-week / 3-month / 12-month follow-ups (Marketing if promotional, Utility if purely transactional reminder), post-treatment aftercare instructions (Utility), no-show recovery messages (Utility).

What's the difference between WhatsApp Business app and WhatsApp Business API?

WhatsApp Business app is a free phone app for one number, manual sending, no automation, no templates. WhatsApp Business API is the developer/platform-grade endpoint with template messages, automation, multiple seats, broadcast at volume, and the pricing model this calculator covers. Most UK businesses with more than 50 inbound messages a week need the API.

Can I switch from a high-markup BSP to a lower-cost provider without losing my number?

Yes. WhatsApp Business numbers can be ported between BSPs via Meta's number-transfer flow. The process takes 2-5 working days and there's no message-history loss because the inbox sits on your platform, not Meta's. NuvenarHub provides a free porting checklist; email support@nuvenar.com.

Run WhatsApp at 0% markup, with the rest of the stack.

NuvenarHub Pro is £480/mo for direct Cloud API access plus full CRM, AI replies, broadcast scheduling, and audit-ready consent. 7-day free trial.
