Do not submit yet. The fundamentals are not in place. Work through the gaps below in order.

01 · Identity
Is your business registered at UK Companies House and currently Active?
Sole traders, partnerships without a Companies House number, and 'Strike Off' status all reduce approval probability.
02 · Identity
Has the business been trading for at least 2 years?
Meta strongly weights business age. Less than 12 months trading is a near-automatic reject for the green tick.
03 · Identity
Do you own a registered domain that matches your brand name?
Meta cross-references your business name against your domain ownership. yourbrand.com or yourbrand.co.uk.
04 · Identity
Do you use a business email at your own domain (not gmail.com / outlook.com)?
[email protected] passes. [email protected] is a near-automatic decline.
05 · Notability
Do you have a verified or 10,000+ follower Instagram presence?
Meta cross-references social presence. Blue tick Instagram = strong signal. 10k+ followers without verification = medium signal.
06 · Notability
Has your business been mentioned in 3+ third-party news sources (not your own blog)?
Press coverage on independent sites (BBC, trade press, regional newspapers, established industry blogs). Press releases on PRWire do not count.
07 · Notability
Does your business or its founder have a Wikipedia page?
Strongest possible signal. Most UK SMBs do not have this, and that is fine: it is a bonus, not a requirement.
08 · Trust
Is your Google Business Profile verified and active?
Independent third-party verification signal. Free. Easy to set up.
09 · Trust
Is your Facebook business page verified or strongly established?
Older Facebook page with regular posting beats new but unverified.
10 · Account
Have you completed standard WhatsApp Business verification (blue label)?
The green tick requires you to first have the blue checkmark (basic WhatsApp Business verification).
11 · Account
Has your WhatsApp number ever been marked Low quality or restricted?
Past quality issues persist on the account record and reduce approval probability.
12 · Account
Are you in a regulated vertical (gambling, crypto, adult, pharmaceuticals)?
These verticals face elevated scrutiny. Some are flat banned from the green tick programme.

The unwritten checklist

Meta's public documentation for the green tick (Official Business Account) badge says only that applicants must be "notable" and demonstrate "broad reach". That is deliberate. The real checklist exists in their internal reviewer guidance and is reverse-engineered from approval and rejection patterns across thousands of applications.

This wizard encodes what we have learnt from operating 100+ WhatsApp accounts at NuvenarHub, including the green-tick applications we have submitted for clinic chains, agencies, and consumer brands. It is not a perfect predictor, but the score correlates strongly with outcome.

The four pillars Meta actually weighs

  • Identity: Companies House registration, trading age, domain ownership, business email. The bedrock. If any of these are weak, the rest barely matter.
  • Notability: Verified social presence, press coverage, Wikipedia (if applicable). Meta wants to see that someone independent of you has acknowledged your existence.
  • Trust signals: Google Business Profile, Facebook Business page age, customer reviews. Tertiary but cumulative.
  • Account state: Standard WhatsApp Business verification first, no past quality issues, vertical not in the regulated-and-restricted list.

What to do if you score in the "Borderline" band

The single highest-leverage move is usually verified social. Meta Verified for Business is $14.99/mo and covers your Instagram and Facebook. That single subscription can move a Borderline application to High. Set up the verified accounts, post regularly for 60 days, then submit.

The second-highest move is press coverage. Three independent placements on regional press, trade press, or established industry blogs takes you from "unknown to Meta" to "Meta has external evidence you exist". Pitch a story angle (launch, milestone, hire) to two or three relevant outlets and most will publish.

What to do if you score "Will be declined"

Do not submit. A declined application creates a record on your business account that affects re-submission. Focus on the Identity pillar first (Companies House, domain, business email), then the standard WhatsApp Business verification (blue tick), then build the Notability case over 3-6 months.

03 // FAQ

What is the green tick?

The Meta-issued Official Business Account (OBA) badge on WhatsApp. It looks like a green checkmark next to your business name and confirms to customers that Meta has verified you. Distinct from the basic blue checkmark which is automatic for Business Accounts.

How is the score calculated?

Each question carries a weight based on how strongly Meta has historically weighted that factor in our observations. Identity and Notability questions carry the highest weight; Trust signals and Account state are secondary. We map the raw score to a percentage and a tier: High, Borderline, Low, Very Low.

Why does Meta require so much for a green tick?

Brand impersonation is the main risk Meta is mitigating. A green tick on WhatsApp tells customers it is safe to share personal info, payment details, and OTPs. Meta would rather decline 95% of applicants than approve one impersonator.

Is the green tick worth it?

For consumer-facing brands at any scale, yes: trust signal, higher engagement rates, custom branding in Account Tools. For internal/B2B operations, no: customers do not see it, and the application overhead is not justified.

Can NuvenarHub help with the application?

Indirectly. NuvenarHub Pro handles the WhatsApp Business Account setup, Cloud API access, and standard Business Account verification (blue checkmark). The green tick is a Meta-side review you submit through Business Manager. NuvenarHub does not bypass this.

How long does Meta take to decide?

5-30 days. Decisions come without explanation. Re-submission allowed after 30 days. Most rejections we have seen are notability-based, not technical.

Skip the green tick wrangling. NuvenarHub handles the rest.
